After studying engineering at University, I chose to pursue my own path and embarked into property development. Through this, learnt about construction, managing people and finances, the importance of good planning and efficient delivery. Wanted to expand upon these skills and apply them on a bigger scale, did so through AW Construction
Drive all aspects of business development with existing and new clients to create and maintain workstreams. Build the AW brand to be leaders in safe delivery of works.
I started on the railway at the age of 18 and worked my way up from Trackman/Civils labourer. I covered all competencies of Safety Critical and Site Supervision to then move into Site Management. I have been involved in some very significant projects across the rail network working for and with the major PCL companies to deliver works for Network Rail in those 12 years before starting AW Rail

After studying as an Electrical Engineer at Kent College in 2010, I joined the team at AW Rail in a hope to expand my electrical knowledge and put it to work on the Railway. Starting as a general track worker in 2012, I gained a position in the office 1 year later where I furthered my rail career in the direction of Safety Critical and Health and Safety gaining SMSTS, Engineering Supervisor & CSCS Gold Qualifications to name a few.

Nearing 10 years’ experience, I Graduated from London South Bank University with a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management. Started career with Kier Construction on their Graduate Programme, where I worked on a number on new build education projects throughout the South-East. Then worked for New Zealand’s number 1 contractor, Fletcher Construction, on a £70million pound project for the University of Auckland in the heart Auckland’s CBD. Have been working as a Contracts Manager for AW Construction Services for over 3 years, contracting to top tier contractors (Wates, Styles & Wood, Mclaren)
Managing the day to day accounts, payroll, pensions, PAYE, CIS, VAT, cashflow & banking for the group of 3 companies.
Preparation of monthly management accounts for the Directors
Yearend closedown and liaison with auditors for the Companies Accounts
45 years of Finance experience across a wide range of companies and industries.
My role within AW Construction Services is fairly broad, mainly assisting the Director and Contracts Manager with the delivery of projects as part of the commercial team. My other roles consist of producing quotations for projects, surveying works for projects both independently and with other members of staff within AW Construction, producing and editing RAMS to suit the diverse category of construction works we undertake, ensuring health and safety rules and regulations are adhered to at all times, procuring the necessary for projects with regards to materials, labour and plant, and assisting the administration department with general admin duties.
I have been in the construction industry for around 3 years, initially starting my career as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor commencing my study down this career path in early October 2017, attending MidKent College in Maidstone I studied for 1.5 years towards my HNC (Higher National Certificate) Construction Qualification, in which I achieved an overall grade of Merit. From then, I have changed employer and job role, moving to AW Construction in July 2019, and changing my role to a Trainee Contracts Manager, I continued my studying with AW Construction after achieving the necessary grade to progress, working towards my HND (Higher National Diploma) Construction Qualification, concluding in July 2020, I am on course to achieve a further Merit grade for this qualification. Enabling me to progress onto University level, which I will work towards a BSc in Construction Management until July 2022.
Ian is one of our newest staff members from a recent recruitment drive and brings to the company a wealth of expertise & knowledge from all disciplines of the railway & construction.
Ian has both, Uk & International experience in Health & Safety & Operations and supports both Nebosh & Iosh accreditation.
With AW Rail’s projected portfolio for 2020/21, Ian will require assiduousness in both planning & delivery and we know Ian will exceed in all these areas and provide the company with an internal solid foundation in HSE for all perspective clients
I have been nominated for ‘You Make A Difference’ award 3 times during my career with NWR which I believe speaks volumes to my commitment to the rail industry. 2017 I joined a family business supplying on-track plant to the rail industry. This company changed my perspective view to being a contractor working for the client and has given me the drive to change the culture & mentality and bring the much needed confidence to all clients that we at AW Rail are serious about QHSE & Delivery to the highest standard.
During my spare time I am Chairman of a local Social Club that hosts Snooker, Pool & Dart teams along with in-house support for a local boxing club. I also enjoy working on one of the 14 motor bikes I own from Italian to Japanese classics. (Most have never heard of Benelli)
