CHAMPION COMBAT CENTRE

Our team were engaged by Champion to deliver a package of electrical and minor building works, transforming an empty warehouse space into a fully functional and bespoke private gym environment for a well-known competitor in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) – The Champion Combat Zone. The project required a balance of technical precision, creative design, collaboration and efficiency, as the works had to be delivered within a restricted timeframe.

Electrical Installation

A major component of the project was a full bespoke electrical installation designed to support the operational needs of a commercial gym. We began with the installation of all containment, which comprised of galvanised conduit and steel wired armoured (SWA) cabling to ensure a robust and reliable infrastructure. The installation was centred around a new three-phase distribution board, providing the necessary capacity to handle the electrical load of a gym environment.

From this, a range of key equipment was powered and commissioned:

• Three-phase wall-mounted commercial heaters to provide effective climate control in the open-plan gym space.
• 2.5 metre circulation fans mounted to the ceiling, offering consistent air movement and comfort for members during high-intensity use.
• A new electric shower, sauna and ice bath were installed
• A commercial-grade sound system, complete with eight wall-mounted speakers, creating an energetic and motivational atmosphere throughout the training floor.

Each section of works was tailored to Champion’s and the clients’ requirements, with durability and safety at the forefront to ensure reliability under heavy daily use.

Building Works

In addition to the electrical scope, some minor building alterations were undertaken to maximise the functionality of the space. An existing office area was reconfigured into a distinct space to allow for media and content production by the athlete:

• A podcast room, complete with acoustic panelling to create a soundproof environment suitable for media recording and digital content production.
• One of the two existing toilets were removed, and the remaining space was converted into a newly installed electric shower/wet room area.

To reinforce Champion’s brand identity, we commissioned bespoke stencils of their logo. These were used to paint bold internal wall and shutter graphics, while printed vinyl was applied to the windows to extend the branding externally. These visual details gave the space a professional and personalised finish, helping Champion establish a strong identity within this new facility.

Challenges and Delivery

The most significant challenge encountered during the project was the limited timeframe available to complete the works. Delays in the lease contract signing meant that our start date was pushed back, compressing the schedule considerably. Despite this, Champion had already committed to the installation of a bespoke flooring and wall matting system by an external contractor on the 13th of the month. It was critical that all preparatory works were completed before this date to avoid disruption and additional costs.

Our site team rose to the challenge, working extended hours—including late into the night on several occasions—to ensure that all aspects of the project were delivered to the highest standard within the timeframe. The coordinated effort and commitment of everyone involved ensured that the facility was completed on time, ready for Champion’s fit-out contractor to proceed without delay with the training equipment.

During the course of the project we were able to reuse some of the materials  in other areas, reducing the environmental waste impact of the project.

Conclusion

Through a combination of our technical knowledge in the fitout of commercial spaces, dedication, and creative input, we successfully transformed this empty premises into a functional, branded, and modern gym/combat centre facility. The works not only met the operational needs of the client but also reflected the unique identity of Champion, delivered under tight deadlines without compromise on quality.
