AW CONSTRUCTION – FOLCA 2 UPDATE 3
Folca 2 – Site Visit 3 News Update 27/04/2026
AW Construction’s strip-out and enabling works at FOLCA 2, the former Debenhams store on Sandgate Road, Folkestone, are progressing strongly and remain on programme. Site activity has increased significantly, with a substantial workforce being coordinated both on-site and through our Resourcing Department at our HQ here in Stanley Court to ensure operative levels align consistently with project demands.
A full scaffold now spans the rear of the building at Albion Mews allowing easier access for the safe and careful removal of materials across all floors but also allowing access for our team and contractors for other key stages of the enabling works coming up.
A robust Health & Safety culture continues to be a central focus, led by our Site Manager through stringent site management practices and regular toolbox talks covering a wide range of safety topics. This proactive approach is ensuring high standards are maintained across all operations.
The basement level has now been fully stripped out and cleared, successfully preparing the area for the next phase of works. With the structure now fully exposed, the scale and complexity of this building are becoming increasingly apparent, allowing for more informed planning as the project progresses.
Favourable weather conditions have supported progress in key areas, particularly roofing works. Our specialist roofing contractor has safely removed and replaced the thermal barrier and applied new vapour barriers and roofing felt across a small portion of the roof, they will now be progressing to the larger area of roofing housing Folca 2 making sure that the new roof provides protection to the building.
Other roof-level works are also advancing well, with the ongoing careful dismantling and controlled removal of HVAC systems and plant room materials continuing safely and efficiently. These materials are being systematically lowered to ground level for segregation and disposal.
As strip-out activities progress through the ground and upper floors, works are being carried out in line with a carefully structured dismantling programme. Waste segregation remains a major success, with dedicated segregated waste bays established on the ground and first floors to ensure materials are responsibly processed through specialist recycling partners.
Sustainability remains a key project priority. A proportion of recovered materials has already been successfully diverted for reuse, with selected items donated to local charities and community organisations. This initiative not only reduces waste but also strengthens AW Construction’s commitment to responsible resource management and meaningful community engagement.
The continued progress at FOLCA 2 is a direct reflection of the professionalism, collaboration, and dedication demonstrated by all parties involved. We extend our thanks to our workforce, client team, and specialist contractors for their ongoing support. Positive engagement with the public, neighbouring businesses, and stakeholders within Albion Mews, Bouverie Place, and the wider local area has also been invaluable in supporting the smooth coordination of daily site logistics for all businesses concerned.
This collective effort continues to play an essential role in the successful delivery of this significant regeneration project on behalf of Folkestone & Hythe District Council.
