During October 2023 we undertook the strip out of not just one retail unit at Ashford Designer Outlet but two! Our experience of working at this substantial retail park here in Kent and our in-depth knowledge of the site gave us the opportunity to work with our client yet again.
Luckily both units requiring a complete strip out were situated within the same side of the outlet centre allowing us to combine our worksite within a few meters of each unit within the service bay area.
As with all projects of this type, the most important factor before commencing any strip out works was to isolate the incoming services to provide a safe working environment for our teams, but allowing some power for lighting and tools. Our inhouse electricians and plumbers were the first on site to carry out these works whilst our project manager enabled the site office and base of operations.
Working within a busy retail park such as Ashford Designer Outlet always has its challenges no matter how many months work and projects you have completed, movement of vehicles for removal of waste and delivery of materials, ensuring the safety of the public and staff working within the outlet centre, fire drills all go to show how well prepared we are when working within such environments here at AW Construction.
These, for us, were a simple strip out project, stripping the units back to a bare shell ready for the new tenant and their fit-out contractor to complete the shell fitout.
From simple strip outs like this to full fitouts and reconfigurations of retail units, installation of security gating, ground and small civils works, providing our highly knowledgeable directly employed trades people to these projects goes a long way in establishing our reputation for a one stop turn key solution for our clients.
During the course of this project we were able to divert a number of items away from landfill and back into the local economy, flooring, chiller units, counter parts, lights and other sundry items.
The aerial image of the outlet centre shows the scale of the site and we can safely say, hand on heart, that we’ve worked on at least 25% of those units, from a few hundred square feet to thousands.
