Bexley Station Hoarding – Reactive Installation
AW Rail successfully delivered the supply, assembly, installation, and handover of temporary timber hoarding and access doors to both subway enclosures at Bexley Station. The works were carried out in full accordance with the design information issued, ensuring that every element was compliant with specification and delivered to a high standard.
This was a reactive project undertaken for one of our valued clients, requiring a particularly rapid mobilisation due to the urgent nature of the works. From the moment the instruction was received, our team had to quickly coordinate the availability of skilled operatives and secure the procurement of materials exactly as specified within the construction drawings. The ability to source and transport these materials on such short notice was critical to the programme, as the hoarding and access doors needed to be in place ready for the next stage of the works being carried out.
Our dedicated project team responded with speed and efficiency, drawing on AW Rails established supply chain and internal resource pool. Mobilisation was achieved within 48 hours of the initial enquiry, and the works were planned and executed to take full advantage of the limited possession period. By carefully sequencing tasks and maintaining close communication with the client throughout, we ensured that the installation was completed in a single shift, avoiding disruption to passenger services and meeting all operational requirements.
Labour supplied for this project included:
- SMSTS Site Management, providing overall supervision, safety oversight, and coordination with the client team.
- PTS Carpenters, responsible for the accurate measurement, cutting, and assembly of the timber hoarding in line with the design drawings.
- PTS Multi-Skilled Operatives, offering flexibility on site to adapt to any unexpected challenges, assisting with both carpentry and general construction activities.
- PTS Labourers, providing essential support in material handling, site preparation, and ensuring the work area remained safe and tidy throughout.
The successful completion of Bexley Station Hoarding highlights AW Rails ability to integrate management expertise, trade skills, and logistical efficiency under tight time constraints. By drawing on a highly competent workforce with the required rail competencies, the team ensured that all safety requirements were met while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
The outcome was a smooth handover to the client, Volkers/Southern Renewals Enterprise, with zero issues reported and positive feedback attained. The hoarding and access doors were installed securely, meeting the functional requirement of protecting the work zones while still allowing safe and controlled access where necessary. The project also demonstrated AW Rails ability to adapt to changing circumstances, as the reactive nature of the instruction required flexibility, resilience, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
The success of this job was ultimately the result of a strong collaborative effort between AW Rail and our client. From the initial enquiry to the final handover, communication was clear and consistent, enabling swift decision-making and efficient allocation of resources. Delivering such a project in one shift not only showcased our ability to respond quickly but also reinforced our reputation for reliability, precision, and high-quality results in the rail environment.
Bexley Station Hoarding stands as an excellent example of AW Rails commitment to providing responsive solutions, demonstrating once again that even under the most challenging circumstances, we can deliver safe, compliant, and effective works to support our clients’ operational needs.
