We have recently completed a project for a new client, NRS, at Dungeness A, refurbishing a suite of offices within the site contractor compound.
There were several strict logistical and site requirements that had to be undertaken before even setting foot within this highly secure zone, our resourcing department put our operatives through the strict vetting programme to allow them unescorted access whilst they were on site carrying out these works. With specific requirements for certain materials, the vetting and competencies of sub-contractors also had to be considered.
This type of strip out and refurbishment works is something we do day in day out here at AW Construction, however, in this instance we had to follow a strict waste disposal plan, plan for security checking of materials entering site and follow additional Health & Safety criteria due to the location of the site and the issues that the weather can cause here.
Our works comprised of:
- Removal of furniture and office items – following a strict waste plan
- Preparation of walls and ceilings including filling and sanding
- 1 coat of primer/sealer onto the walls and ceilings
- 2 coats of low VOC light grey spec’d paint on walls
- 2 coats of low VOC white paint on ceilings
- Installing a new kitchenette in the canteen
- Installing a Fire door between 2 offices.
- Sub contractor to install carpet tiles and vinyl flooring
Extra Works picked up once on site:
- Replacement of damaged plasterboard sheets
- Replacement of damaged insulation
- Resealing of windows that were leaking
- New microwave shelving worktop in canteen
- New water heater in canteen
This was a great learning opportunity for all involved and overseen by our Project lead Daniel Jones, certain security aspects meant that we had to plan resourcing around weekend working and early shift patterns.
Overall, we are very pleased with the final outcome of the works carried out and have received positive praise from the client, we look forward to the next project at this site in the months to come.
Due to the sensitive nature of the site we are limited in the photos that we can show of any works being undertaken.
