BRIEF DESCRIPTION

We handed over the completed works to Hever Station Footbridge to our client within the specified programme and to budget.

Objective: The primary aim was to extend the lifespan of the footbridge by performing structural steel repairs, replacing old U Frames with new PFC, stiffeners, and cross bracing. Additional tasks included surface preparation (WJ4) and painting the metallic elements (M34), as well as the installation of GRP stair treads and decking.

  • Steel work was carried out to execution class 3 and NR/CIV/SD/801 standards.
  • M34 paint repairs adhered to NR/L3/CIV/039 and NR/L3/CIV/040 standards.

Challenges:

  • Weather Conditions: The majority of the work was conducted at night without protection from the elements, requiring careful timing and execution for painting works.

Solutions Implemented:

  1. Weather Monitoring: Conducted daily weather checks before starting work and performed hourly checks during operations to adhere to specifications as outlined in the Inspection Test Plan (ITP).

Outcomes:

  • Completion: The project was completed within the planned duration.
  • Impact: The footbridge now offers improved structural integrity and safety for users, aligning with safety standards and community expectations.

  • Proactive Monitoring: Consistent weather monitoring is crucial for maintaining quality in weather-dependent tasks.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and prompt response to environmental conditions can significantly influence project success.
