SINGLEWELL DEPOT

Working on behalf of B&M McHugh, our scope focused on the installation of reinforced concrete overhead line equipment (OHL) bases across Singlewell Depot.

The works included excavation to formation level, orientation checks, shutter installation, steel reinforcement and bolt set placement, concrete pours, and reinstatement of surrounding ground levels using Type 1 material and mechanical compaction.

Despite challenging weather conditions throughout January, our teams-maintained the progress and ensured the programme remained on track. All works were delivered in accordance with strict Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, safeguarding our workforce and all site stakeholders.

Scope of Works Delivered at Singlewell Depot

AW Rail undertook a full end-to-end delivery of the OHL base installations, including:

• CAT scanning, trial holes, and service avoidance
• Setting out and marking of base positions
• Excavation and formation preparation
• Installation of blinding layers
• Manufacture and installation of shutters
• Fabrication and placement of reinforcement cages
• Accurate setting of holding-down bolts using templates
• Controlled concrete pours to specified levels
• Quality control, including test cube sampling
• Striking and removal of shutters
• Backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement
• Ground level adjustments using Type 1 material
• Removal of redundant bases and hazard mitigation
• Site regrading in accordance with Network Rail requirements
• Clearance of spoil, waste, and materials
• Demobilisation and plant off hire

Delivery and Standards

Throughout the programme, AW Rail  working closely with our client demonstrated a high level of professionalism and technical competence. All activities were carefully planned and executed to meet design specifications, quality requirements, and programme constraints with.

Key outcomes included:

• Consistent compliance with Health & Safety standards

• Minimal disruption to wider depot operations
• High-quality finishing and reinstatement

The works were completed on time, with all plant, materials, and waste removed from site, leaving the area fully prepared for subsequent phases, including mast installation.
