Twycross Zoo – During 2016 we had the pleasure in creating a new climbing frame for these exclusive clients – an alternative works programme for the AW Constructions teams to get involved with!

We removed the old crumbling structure and enabled a newly designed climbing and recreational platform for the Chimpanzees at Twycross Zoo.

There was additional planning required for this project and our staff were briefed on Working with Animals, Welfare and had to make sure nothing was left on site that could endanger one of the chimpanzees. There was a strict signing in and signing out policy with the zoo staff each day we were on site.

Various method statements and risk assessments were provided for the scope of the works. Due to the restricted access on site all the materials had to be carried into the enclosure and the new structure erected by hand.

This was a great project to work on and the Chimpanzees certainly enjoyed their new addition within their enclosure.  Certainly, something different from our day-to-day construction projects within the commercial construction sector.
