AW Rail – Groundworks GA Stores
Groundworks GA Stores – AW Rail were awarded the groundworks & structural slab package for the new GA Stores at Cambridges’ busy Railway Depot. This depot is relatively new, very clean & well looked after so the pressure was on to keep it that way.
Works consisted of:
- Reduce dig & removal of existing concrete foundations
- Install new drainage
- Install Steel reinforcement
- Pour concrete to an easy float finish
Our site was situated down a narrow access road with trains & OLE either side of our works area, so plant & programme had to be carefully planned & managed. Due to the OLE we had to use a very small excavator but on day 1 we came across existing foundations that were over a meter thick. Trying to break this out with a small machine was taking an age but a larger machine wasn’t an option due to all the restriction. Within our dig area was the Red Box which powers the OLE so additional restrictions were enforced & a decision to move the slab 300mm to the west was decided. Despite all these restrictions & the extra works to break out the existing foundations, AW Rail managed to finish the works on time & with no damage to any part of the depot.
AW Rail are being granted further works within the depot on the back of the Groundworks GA Stores successful works.
