AW CONSTRUCTION – DISABLED ADAPTATIONS
AW Construction – this week we begin converting more bathrooms into specially adapted wet rooms under an ongoing framework contract with Canterbury City Council.
Working closely with each client our Contracts Manager plans and assist with these adaptations making sure that the needs of each individual are listened to carefully and where possible adapts the bathroom to suit – often coming up with innovative ways to fit everything in!
Each project comes with its own challenges, adapting sometimes dated pre-existing bathrooms to accommodate modern day fixtures & fittings, changing, or updating electrical supplies, adapting water and waste in & out, careful positioning of grab rails and low-level supports, no two projects are the same.
When adapting a home for a disabled person, it’s important that safety is the number one priority. We work with our clients, social services and occupational therapists and other stakeholders to make sure the right safety measures are taken and that relevant equipment is installed to enhance independence and confidence. We also help our clients to re-think room layouts to improve accessibility, and plan extensions that can transform the usability of areas of the home.
Here are some of the ways, in which we have been helping disabled clients as part of this framework.
- Adding a hoist to the bath, installing a walk-in shower or fitting a set of grab rails to help with getting in and out of the bath, creating a walk in wet room
- Widening doorways to allow for enhanced wheelchair access
- Reducing the height of kitchen worktops for ease of use
- Installing an outdoor ramp and flat patio area
- Increasing home security with fittings such as outdoor lights and an intercom system
This is where we excel with these works, taking the time to listen to each client and adapt to their needs, supplying a team of operatives that understand the works and the needs of the client.
