Staff development across the AW Group – We take a positive and pro-active attitude to the training and personal development of our staff. Over the years we had the pleasure of offering work experience to a number of individuals who have gone onto secure work placements with some of the biggest companies in the UK.

Within AW Rail we have been fortunate enough to have two members of our staff studying for degrees whilst gaining valuable first-hand experience of working within the rail/construction sector.

For one of our team, Ryan Nash, who recently graduated from the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) with a MSc in Quantity Surveying achieving an impressive 2:1 for his efforts. We asked Ryan for his thoughts on completing his degree whilst working here at AW Rail:

“Though full of confidence when starting my course, I quickly realised that balancing both my degree and a highly demanding job was challenging. Planning was vital if I were to succeed and finish with a respectable grade. The combination of working as a hybrid between the office and onsite has significantly helped my commercial development, making me better able to understand and apply the syllabus. Areas where I thoroughly enjoyed studying were tendering and procurement & construction management, in which I achieved my highest marks. I’m looking forward to applying these skills and furthering my career with AW”

Our Managing Director, Kahraman Ongul, was full of praise for Ryan:

“It’s been great having Ryan as part of the team and nurturing his skill set between working on site and helping him achieve the theoretical element of his course work. Allowing him time within the working week to attend University for lessons has clearly paid off and we are making sure that his achievement is being put to good use across the many projects we are currently engaged with”

Continuous training and development and making sure that all our staff wherever they work within the company have the necessary qualifications and skills to carry out their jobs, skillfully and safely, is vital to our success.

Finally, why the golf picture? Well try as we might we could not find a picture of Ryan working on site (something we have immediately rectified) but, as a keen golfer he has used his talents on the green supporting us in our attendance at charity golf matches raising money for local organisations!
