Do you want to work in construction?

That was the question asked of pupils on a rather wet and windy Wednesday morning!

This week we were invited to speak about careers within the construction industry by Dover Grammar School for Boys as part of their Futures Week Careers Event.

Talking to a packed audience in The Great Hall within the new school building gave us the perfect showground to expand on some of the works that we do here at AW Construction and AW Rail. With the demolition of their old school building going on in the background allowed us to explain how we complete strip out works through to fitting out spaces such as classrooms, study spaces, science labs, reception areas, canteens and more, crossing over to the varying trades and professionals that see every project through here to completion across construction and rail.

Having so much on hand to visualise in our talk made for some interesting conversations and questions from pupils on the wide variety of works we cover at AW Group.

We certainly hope that we helped in their goal for making informed decisions on their futures, and aware of the vast range of different employment choices within the construction and rail industry there is available.

With the current shortage of people available in the industry as a whole, it was encouraging to hear that many were already looking at becoming, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers, but also those that had aspirations on becoming the next award-winning architects & designers!
