AW CONSTRUCTION – NEW PROJECT START – JUNE 2024
AW Construction Services – New Project Start – Canterbury Christ Church University Medway Campus
Towards the end of 2023 and certainly into the start of 2024 the Great British weather has not been kind, especially in our little corner of the Southeast of Kent. With record rainfall and high winds, it was inevitable that damage to property was going to occur.
With Canterbury Christ Church Universities Medway Campus perched above the River Medway it certainly is an exposed location and sadly bore the brunt of the bad weather we have been experiencing.
During one storm significant damage was caused to the roof of the university resulting in a large section being peeled back just like an orange skin! As we have been working with CCCU at their Canterbury Campus we were called in to assess the damage that the wind and following rain had caused.
We had to make some emergency repairs to prevent further water penetration and protect our client’s property as best we could. Over the past few months we have been working with the university, insurers and other stake holders in formulation a plan of works to renew the roofing area and repair the residual damage to other areas within the building.
We are currently working on:
- Removing the existing single ply membrane and insulation
- Increasing the level of insulation to comply with current regulations
- Installing a tapered insulation to improve the water run-off
- Replacing lightning protection
- Installing a new safety latchway system
- Carrying out internal decorations to water damaged areas
Due to the size of the building and the protection required and significant scaffold project was also instigated with a long-term partner, All Access Scaffold. This allows protection for our team to carry out the required works safely and in the dry, even with it being June!
Many thanks to our Project Manager for maintaining our client relationship and bringing this project to fruition, along with our comprehensive team of estimators, buyers, resourcing and of course the team tasked to carry out the real hard work!
