AW CONSTRUCTION – HYTHE VENETIAN FETE
We have a long tradition of supporting local events, communities and organisations across Folkestone and beyond. With our HQ based here at Shorncliffe and the vast majority of our staff coming from the immediate area we try where we can support a diverse range community projects.
Recently we sent a couple of our talented multi-skilled team from AW Construction down to Hythe to help repair some of the boats that are used in the rather spectacular Hythe Venetian Fete, which this year takes place on 21st August.
Whilst we would have loved to have been able to build a boat from scratch there are far more talented entrants out there who would have probably put us to shame. Instead, we completed various works overhauling some of the boats, replacing rotten timber seats, sprucing up the paintwork and other minor areas of maintenance to make sure these craft are watertight for the big day!
Hythe Venetian Fete draws a big crowd every year and is only truly made possible by the huge number of volunteers who act as stewards, car park attendants, support for the free music concerts and much more.
There is a rich history behind the fete, first truly established in 1890 but taking place unofficially well into the middle of the 19th century where decorated floats formed a procession along the canal first in daylight and then after dark where they were illuminated.
