AW RAIL – TIMBER WEDGE RECYCLING
During our activities carrying out numerous brickwork repairs within tunnels, viaducts, culverts and elsewhere across the rail network we do use a lot of timber wedges in the execution of these works.
We were recently asked by a local nursery close to our HQ here in Folkestone if we could provide them with “some small pieces of timer” for the children to play with. After some thought the easiest and quickest solution was to provide the nursery with some of the wooden wedges that we use.
So, after a good clean and a drying out, we provided the nursery with a large bag of wedges for the children to play with. However, being two-year-olds they were a bit more creative than we thought and used the wedges to recreate Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Hopefully these could be the hands of a future rail or construction professional!
Our recycling, reuse and upcycling initiatives continue to gain momentum across the whole of the AW Group, rail and construction, and we are seeing more and more organisations, charities, schools collaborating with us to see how we can direct these waste streams into the circular economy, both locally and further afield to where we work.
If you are interested in working with us and seeing how you can benefit from materials recovered from our projects, then please do get in touch. We make no charge for these, all are FREE, and, in many cases, their monetary value can be quite high, helping with financial strains on dwindling budgets in these current times.
You can see a snapshot of the local communities, organisations and schools we have helped over the past two years here: Social Value Projects
Thanks to the children from Little Acorns Childcare for their creative efforts and we look forward to supplying you with further materials soon.
AW Rail Services have been delivering rail projects for several years right across the Rail & Construction sector.
Our extensive rail experience of over 120 years, combining decades of hands-on knowledge, providing building enhancements and maintenance solutions, improving infrastructure for passengers and operators, delivering major projects, and fulfilling long-term maintenance contracts really sets us apart.
Our services are varied from structural maintenance on tunnels, bridges, foot crossings, signal gantries, to station refurbishment, platform enhancements, civils works on and around the track, the mechanism management of lineside vegetation and further afield, painting of all types of structures and lastly but perhaps most importantly the provision of rail labour, not only supporting the projects we carry out for our projects but for the provision of labour to other clients.
