AW GROUP – RECYCLING UPDATE NOVEMBER

AW GROUP – RECYCLING UPDATE NOVEMBER

Recycling Update for November 2024 – It’s been a very busy few weeks here at AW Group with our recycling and community projects and the response from our network of recyclers has been amazing. These communities and people who align with our own vision for sustainability, recycling, upcycling and supporting local communities not just here in Folkestone but into other areas where we carry our projects and works continue to play a vital role in our sustainability strategies across the whole company

A percentage of the waste from construction and rail projects is repurposed into future projects where it is viable, the remainder is then sorted and graded ready for our team to find a home within the local network of people we have aligned with over the past two years.

Just a taster of the items we diverted from skips and potentially landfill during November:

Bricks – with the various repairs we undertake to tunnels, bridges, walls, viaducts, arches we often have surplus supply of slightly damaged bricks, or whole bricks that have been taken out of structures which are prefect for a second use – especially at colleges teaching brickwork.

Timber – our timber gets used in a huge variety of locations and organisations, supplies to local schools, colleges, men’s sheds, community farms, heritage sites, charities, community gardens, drop-in centres,

Plastic Piping – various lengths and diameters have been used as raised planters, crawling spaces and other play equipment for children’s nurseries, animal habitats and hideaways, protection of wetland spaces.

Flooring – end of phase flooring from framework projects has gone to schools, Wildwood Trust, community cricket clubs, Pilgrims Hospices Canterbury and more

Wallpaper – commercial wallpaper (albeit in some colours you’d never want in your own house) has been donated to EKC Folkestone as part of their Painting & Decorating courses

Paint – various quantities of paint have been repurposed to colleges, schools, hospices, men’s sheds, heritage sites, charities

Other construction items – anything from literally the kitchen sink to odd boxes of tiles, screws, M&E fixings, flooring strips, edge protectors,

We are always looking to find more avenues for our waste from projects within AW Rail and AW Construction, if you’d like to know more about what we do and what we have available then please do get in touch and we’d be happy to chat with you.
