AW RAIL – HEALTH & SAFETY MATTERS
Whilst we carry out many internal site inspections and health & safety audits here at AW Rail it’s always encouraging to hear how well we do when audited by a client or other third party. The railway environment can throw up many challenges/hazards to even the simplest works requirement.
On a recent site visit conducted by one of our clients it was encouraging to note that we received an outstanding score and review on several specific items that formed part of this inspection.

Having our teams on site and making sure that they are briefed correctly of the works delivery is essential in not only keeping everyone safe but making sure all on site know the requirements of the works to be carried which might include Underfoot conditions, Working at Height, Manual Handling, HAVS, Public Interface, along with all permits being made available both in written form and digitally.
It’s a credit to our operatives and management teams in making sure everyone has the relevant competencies to carry out these works, along with the experience to deliver the works. Collaborating with the clients via email, telephone, Teams calls and face to face meetings goes a long way to making sure that once we are on site everything goes to plan often within the tight time constraints of line closures/blocks and interfacing with other stakeholders carrying out additional works within the working zone.
Our yard manager ensures that all plant hired in is checked and suitable for the task in hand, along with any consumable items, small hand tools and other environmental safeguards to ensure compliance when on site. With a comprehensive array of vehicles at our disposal our transport manager ensures that these are ready to transport our teams to site but also loaded correctly and within the manufacturer’s specifications.
The result is that all this comes together as a positive outcome on audits and site inspections and re-enforces our commitment to health and safety, our quality, and environmental management ISO accreditations. Having just been re-evaluated under the direction of Jason Stokes and the AW Rail Team we are pleased to have received compliance in all for the works we are engaged in.
