AW GROUP – TIMBER RECYCLING NEWS
AW Group – Timber Recycling News March 2025 – Our long-standing timber recycling initiative here at AW Group has benefited a wide variety of organisations, charities, schools, colleges and other individuals championing the cause of recycling not just timber but a whole variety of materials produced within the construction industry.
It’s always a positive when people send in photos of what they have produced from timber that they have collected from us. Knowing that some of these organisations, purely run by volunteers, are not just making items for their own use, but also for the local community in which they live.
We’d like to thank a local “men’s shed” operating just up the road from our Folkestone HQ, for the work they carry out in recycling our waste timber into an incredible array of products, from garden benches, tables, picnic tables, planters, nativity scenes and even making decorative bowls! Many of these kind-hearted souls are retired and just wanting to give back to the local community, even at the age of 90!
We recently took delivery of a large garden planter made from timber from strip out and other construction projects here at our offices and will be growing a wide variety of plant, flowers and even trying our hand at a few vegetables over the coming months.
It’s our hope that by growing a wide variety of plants that we can attract pollinators and other insects, perhaps even some reptiles basking in the sunshine.
If you would like to know more about our timber recycling project and all the other recycling initiatives, we have in place here at AW Group then do please get in touch to see how you could benefit.
We also carry out a wide range of careers talks, recycling and sustainability talks to schools, colleges and other organisations locally to where we work so, please reach out to us.

Everyone needs to do their part to help the environment. Business activities, home renovations, and construction all result in a large amount of waste materials – particularly wood in the construction industry. By recycling this wood, you can help by cutting down on the amount of waste that could end up in landfill while also reducing the need for new timber.
Although wood is a renewable sourced product, it takes time, effort, and energy to grow and process it. Recirculating wood already in the market cuts out a large portion of this, making it more sustainable and easier to acquire- it helps keep our costs down for removal and saves you money in acquiring it!
Wood/timber is a natural material, highly sustainable, reusable, recyclable, or compostable (depending on its type and grade) whether you require a simple piece of 2×2 or a dozen or so pallets for a project then do please get in touch we’d love to include you in our next timber recycling news update.
The more wood that is recycled and reused means there is less of a requirement for trees to be chopped down. While trees are considered to be sustainable, growing trees to a level where they can be used can take years, and this means that demand can’t be met.
In addition to this, reusing recycled wood can be cheaper in terms of energy, materials, and money than using new materials.
