Work Experience – Picnic Benches
This week saw the attendance of two students from EKC Folkestone who are in Year 1 of their Site Carpentry Level 2 course.
They joined us to carry out an exercise on the construction of some picnic benches that are destined for Ashford Designer Outlet. These benches had been specifically sourced for their durability, along with their construction from hundreds of recycled plastic bottles!
The students carried out an onsite induction and were then led through a RAMS for the safe construction and conduct on site of these picnic tables from their flat pack state – giving them an insight into the standard practices of attending any of our sites we work on.
We then lead them through the methodology of building the picnic benches despite some very basic assembly instructions. Both students adapted to the task in hand and solved any issues quickly and correctly whilst liaising with the site lead.
After a few hours work both Dominick and Leon had completed the construction of 6 sets of picnic benches ready for collection and delivery to Ashford Designer Outlet.
The team here at AW Construction would like to thank them both for their positive attitudes towards the works undertaken, enthusiasm to get the job done and for their good humour throughout the day.
We look forward to more work experience opportunities with students from EKC and other schools/colleges over the coming months.
