It’s been a busy month for our teams across our rail and construction companies which in turns produces various waste streams that we must dispose of. The construction industry still uses significant amounts of timber and therefore a lot of waste timber from strip out, refit , temporary works projects and other work sites gets generated.

With our timber recycling initiative, we can supply a wide range of local and national organisations, schools, charities, community gardens and more with a varied supply of timber.

Timber Recycling so far in May has seen a surge of people requiring timber for various projects, whether that just be a couple of pallets right through to van loads of timber being taken away to enable projects that otherwise would not go ahead due to funding and the increase in price of timber. We’re pleased to say that some of this timber was diverted to our charity of the year Pilgrims Hospices.

It’s estimated that so far in May we have donated more than 3 tonnes of timber, recycled from sites and stored in our designated recycling bays at our yard ready for collection.

We would like to thank all the people and organisations that have supported this initiative, and we’re excited to see what will become of this timber in its new setting. In fact, we managed to completely empty our timber recycling bay on two Fridays in succession.

This month alone recycled timber has been made into:

• Raised Planters
• Gates
• Stud Walling
• Turned into play equipment at pre & primary schools
• Gone to national charities for projects
• Animal Shelters
• Examination pieces
• Various colleges for students to use as part of their course work and to develop training bays
• Garden Benches
• Bird Boxes
• Hedgehog Houses
