We were appointed to assist with the design and construction of a temporary canopy installation to provide safe, weather-protected access between an existing building and some newly installed portal kitchen units at our clients site here in East Sussex.
The solution needed to facilitate daily deliveries, staff access, and operational continuity, while maintaining compliance with health and safety standards. With this being a temporary structure careful thought had to be taken to ensure that the structure could be easily dismantled with little or no damage to the surrounding structures at the end of its life span.
Scope of Works
- Construction of a timber-framed canopy structure
- Installation of twin-wall polycarbonate sheeting for weather protection
- Formation of access ramps and steps
- Installation of double access doors
- Installation of handrails to ensure safe access and movement
- Internal installation of GRP anti-slip flooring throughout
Our Build Solution
The canopy was carefully designed with input from our onsite team, Project Manager and client to seamlessly connect the existing building to the external kitchen units, creating a fully enclosed, protected walkway.
Key considerations included:
- Durability – Robust timber frame construction
- Weather resistance – Twin-wall sheeting to protect against rain and wind
- Accessibility – Gradual ramp access for deliveries and trolleys
- Safety compliance – Handrails and anti-slip flooring throughout
- Ease of dismantling once the temporary kitchen units had completed their use
The structure ensured uninterrupted service access while improving safety for both staff and suppliers.
Health & Safety
- GRP anti-slip sheets installed internally to minimise slip risks
- Handrails fitted along ramped access for stability
- Safe step access provided alongside ramp routes
- All works completed in line with site safety requirements
Programme Duration
- Duration: 2 weeks
- Completion: Delivered on time and in line with programme requirements
