PROJECT OVERVIEW

We’ve had a busy time here at Canterbury Christ Church University since the start of the new academic year in 2024 completing various small and larger projects across the campus both here at Canterbury and Medway. Just our November works schedule was quite extensive.

Working closely with the university’s estates team our onsite trades have been kept busy with a variety of works including the siting of the new Forensic Cabins. Having our team on site allows us to react quickly to any emergency repairs but also allows for careful planning for more planned maintenance across the estate.

Various estates projects across campus in November – not limited to:

  • New Showers
  • New fencing along with gate and other fencing repairs
  • Ceiling grid repairs
  • Student union café repairs
  • General maintenance across a wide range of buildings
  • General repairs to roofing to mitigate leaks and flooding
  • Window repairs and decorations
  • Tarmac repairs
  • Installation of bollards
  • Repairs to manhole covers and surrounds

As we moved into December, we were asked by the Chaplin at the university to assist with an alternative nativity scene, the “unstable” for the Canterbury campus this year. We hope that the students enjoy this collaborative project as they wind down ready for the Christmas break.

Of course, working within a live student environment throws up many challenges, not least in making sure everyone stays safe and that the works carried out don’t disrupt the running of the university, therefore, we often carry out some of these works out of hours to mitigate as much risk as possible.

Credit must go to our onsite team who liaise with the estates team to make sure each project, no matter how small is carried out to programme, budget and reflects the good works that we continue to carry out within the education sector.
