AW Construction Services are incredibly proud to of been part of a project that saw the children at John Wallis Church of England Academy in Ashford, receive a brand new, colourful and vibrant library. Acting as principal designer we took on full design responsibility for the project.
In collaboration with McArthurGlen Group, one of our long-standing clients, and The Ashford Designer Outlet, we carried out these works on a non-profit basis. We were able to complete the full strip out of the existing classroom from a tired overcrowded room, design, manufacture and spray all bookcases, install the stencils which formed the quotes on the walls, all whilst creating absolute minimal disruption to the school and the pupils within.
There were various works carried out:
- Strip Out of existing room and removal of furniture
- Carpentry
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Decorating
Careful consideration had to be made for the delivery of materials to and from site creating designated loading areas and ensuring that pupils, staff, and visitors could not access this. With this in mind and with the adjacent classrooms and play areas to the new library being used throughout the project, with teaching in full swing, we decided to undertake as much work off site as possible, to minimise noise and dust disruption. This was particularly challenging given the bookcases had to be bespoke to the room itself and carefully surveying and production drawings had to be produced.
Our director Thomas Locke took great enjoyment from being invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony and had the pleasure to meet and interact with the staff and pupils at John Wallis Church of England Academy.
We hope this new and engaging space gives the children of John Wallis Academy, all the facilities they need to allow their imagination to run wild, whilst enjoying one of the hundreds of books on the shelves of their new library.
