Canterbury City Council Disabled Adaptations – AW Construction – We have recently completed our first disabled adaptation for a client via our successful contract win from Canterbury City Council – stripping out an existing bathroom and creating a walk-in wet room that meets DDA regulations.
Our Project Management Team and Tenant Liaison Officer offered their assistance to the tenant at every stage of the process ensuring that we delivered a quality product on time and within budget.
Of course, these refurbishment projects wouldn’t succeed without our experienced construction crews on the ground doing all the real work. This has been a real team effort here at AW Construction and we are delighted to be able to offer the following testimonial from the client:
“Due to my current mobility issues, I really needed a walk-in wet room and AW Construction certainly came to my rescue.
It’s given me back my independence and what a grand job they have done. Wet room is finished to an excellent standard. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending AW Construction to anyone who is looking for a local construction company for their building needs.
Through the project everyone at AW Construction worked hard and even with the delays due to Covid and Christmas dealt with the many challenges along the way, they went above and beyond, always putting me, the customer, first and looking after my needs.”
We are already well under way with the second project and look forward to bringing you pictures of the completed job.
When adapting a home for a disabled person, it’s important that safety is the number one priority. We work with our clients, social services and occupational therapists and other stakeholders to make sure the right safety measures are taken and that relevant equipment is installed to enhance independence and confidence. We also help our clients to re-think room layouts to improve accessibility, and plan extensions that can transform the usability of areas of the home.
Here are some of the ways, in which we have been helping disabled clients as part of this framework.
- Adding a hoist to the bath, installing a walk-in shower or fitting a set of grab rails to help with getting in and out of the bath, creating a walk in wet room
- Widening doorways to allow for enhanced wheelchair access
- Reducing the height of kitchen worktops for ease of use
- Installing an outdoor ramp and flat patio area
- Increasing home security with fittings such as outdoor lights and an intercom system
This is where we excel with these works, taking the time to listen to each client and adapt to their needs, supplying a team of operatives that understand the works and the needs of the client.
