AW RAIL – SOUTHBOROUGH VIADUCT UPDATE
AW Rail – Southborough Viaduct update – we have been working on this listed viaduct nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside for 1 year, in fact we can safely say we have been exposed to all four seasons as we gradually work our way down the viaduct – having now worked on spans 1 to 15 with span 16 starting shortly.
Having completed numerous repairs thus far, part of the original 8 span scaffolding has now been removed and the enormity of this viaduct span across the valley can be truly appreciated. Ongoing repairs are now being carried out by specialist MEWPS which required careful planning for ingress and egress routes to make sure that our operatives remained safe whilst in operation.
As we continue with the specialist repairs to the brick work and pointing you cannot resist the opportunity to take a few minutes to marvel at the view from atop the scaffolding, even the passing trains heading to and from Tonbridge to Hastings seem to fade into the beautiful surroundings of a valley which once housed a Powder Mill and is steeped in history.
The logistical challenges of getting plant, materials and operatives to site plays an important part in the day-to-day operations on this project and regular site visits, safety inspections and skills talks are undertaken each week to make sure our team of operatives stay safe and informed.
