AW Construction – Kings School Update
It’s been a frantic few weeks over at The Kings School in Canterbury, whilst students and staff took a well earnt summer break our teams have been very busy in the final stages of fitting out the new science labs within Parry Hall and restoring The Mint Yard to its former glory. We started this project over 5 months ago and it seems like only yesterday that we too the first hammer to stripping out all the old labs.
The first thing you notice when walking around the site is how the re-instatement of the grassed area within the quad, or The Mint Yard, really sets off these historical buildings, bringing out the beauty of the stone, brickwork, flint work and other aesthetic areas of a bygone era.
The schools’ estates team have done an amazing job of replanting the borders and we are sure that in time these will reflect perfectly within their surroundings. The new lawn has been a labour of love, with the current heatwave hovering over East Kent we have had to give this some extra TLC to keep it lush and green so that it can take root and offer a wonderful place to sit, learn and reflect on those that have sat before them and gone onto great things for which Kings is famous for.
Internally, the miles of cables and pipework that connect all the science lab benches and facilities have now been boxed in, testament to the hard work our electricians and other trades put in to contain all this so that the rooms were clean and sharp.
The new lab furniture has been placed temporarily while we connect all the utilities ready for scientific wisdom to be imparted to an eager audience, our collaboration with the school and its amazing staff have offered us the chance to reveal boarded up windows and detail within the building to compliment some beautiful highlights of this listed building, sitting comfortably with its 21st century companions.
Visiting the site today, you only get to appreciate the size and complexity of what our Project and Site Manager are overseeing, with 20 plus trades people on site it was hard to pinpoint where they all were, yet we are on programme to handover in just over a month’s time. We are sure many of our team are going to miss working here.
