During 2023 we continued our ongoing relationship with Woodpeckers of Kent for the collection of our surplus timber coming out of a variety of rail and construction projects. We have learnt so much from Erik and his colleagues who come to collect our timber and have seen first the benefits of community wood recycling. The 2023 social and environmental impact report has just been released.

Working with Woodpeckers we have substantially reduced the amount of timber that could have ended up in landfill, reusing timber in future projects, engaging with communities local to our offices here in Folkestone and further afield to where we work.  Eliminating the need for skips at our yard and creating segregated waste areas for all the timber that comes back has seen huge benefits, not just financially, but by creating a positive impact with all the people that we now work with.

We cannot thank Erik Uebel enough for his dedication in supporting us through our journey into community wood recycling, his knowledge and enthusiasm has certainly played an instrumental part in getting us to where we are today.

Knowing that the people Erik works with are receiving the best possible care and education, building their confidence and self-esteem allowing them to learn new skills and be part of team, ultimately helping them overcome barriers to finding future employment.

Woodpeckers are just a small part of the Community Wood Recycling initiative that operates across the UK and we would urge anyone who has an interest in wood recycling, reuse and helping others to get in touch with their local branch to see how they can help.
