AW RAIL SERVICES – EKC TRAINING SAFETY TALK
As part of our commitment to the next generation of those interested in a career within the rail industry, we finished off Rail Safety Week with an informal chat to some students studying for their Rail Engineering Track Maintenance NVQ through EKC Training.
During this session held at their purpose-built training facilities at East Kent Railway (based in Shepherdswell – where we have provided surplus paint, timber and other items to support their endeavours) we discussed in depth the real need for safety within the industry, giving examples of safety briefings, work packs, and with this rather warm weather in East Kent, a Toolbox Talk on Hot Weather Safety.
Having our Rail Manager, Jason Stokes present, we were also able to impart real life work examples of why safety is paramount, and why it should not be underestimated in saving lives, preventing injury and getting everyone “Home Safe, Everyday” and not just for those that work within the industry but other stakeholders, people, passengers and the wider public.
Running alongside the need for practising good safety within the industry we also touched on some of the other issues that contribute to this including Mental Heath and Wellbeing.
It also gave us an opportunity to run through the services that we supply, particularly our Labour Supply arm of the business, to the industry and the types of work opportunities that we may have. Running through projects we have worked on showing the broad scope of sites and locations that they could be exposed too as they start their careers in the industry.
We’d like to thank EKC Training and Tamsin O’Sullivan for allowing us the opportunity to come and speak with the students and wish everyone success in passing the course along with their PTS, TIC and other proficiencies needed to allow them a safe journey into the exciting and varied world of the rail industry.
