AW GROUP – EAST KENT RAILWAY RECYCLING
One of the very first organisations that joined us on our recycling and sustainability initiatives was East Kent Railway based in Shepherdswell.
We have been supplying them with a wide variety of materials to help with the upkeep and modernisation of their extensive railway heritage site. Everything from timber, paint, flooring, electrical items, odd bits of metal all the way through to redundant track trolleys to assist with movement of materials on track.
They have recently refurbished their WC facility, using timber to make stud walls for composite panels and for the external framing of the containers ready for wooden cladding which houses a model railway display.
Being able to support a rail heritage site, particularly as we celebrate Railway200 in 2025, and supporting them in their endeavours to preserve railway history means a lot.
After the winter break trains are now running between the villages of Shepherdswell and Eythorne which uses the fascinating Golgotha tunnel cut into the chalk. If you get the opportunity do check out their events for 2025, running times of the trains and other attractions on site.
