AW GROUP – FUELLING THE THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE
Three Peaks Challenge Fuel & Fitness Lecture.
Whilst the training by the team is going well, the question remained how fit are we and what more can we do to prepare for this gruelling 24hr challenge?
Luckily, as AW Construction carry out a multitude of works at Canterbury Christ Church University, we were able to collaborate with their Sports Sciences division for some practical and physical advice!
So, on Monday this week part of the team were given some practical advice on fuelling for this challenge, highlighting the requirements the body requires to get us through the 24hrs, not only whilst we are hiking but more importantly refuelling and recovery between the drive from Ben Nevis to Scafell to Snowdon!
Along side this an old fashioned VO2 max test was undertaken by team members, Tom, Anthony, Garry, Christian and Freddie. This involved some vigorous step activity keep timing with an ever-increasing metronome against a set time.
Luckily, the training the team has undertaken, and the other spots/physical activities they participate in saw us in a good place for increasing our training over the coming weeks and months before June and the big day!
We’d like to thank CCCU for their time and advice, it was all very interesting, plus for the opportunity to have a quick tour of the impressive facilities that they have at the university for sports coaching and helping people gain maximum fitness, along with recovery & rehabilitation in a wide variety of disciplines.
Our weekend hikes continue, with not only the Three Peaks Team taking part but other members of AW Group and their families, something that we set out to try and encourage from the very start.
