After a very early start from our HQ here in Folkestone the team made good progress heading north to Scotland for the starting point of the 3 Peaks Challenge in aid of Kent Sussex Surrey Air Ambulance.

A good night’s rest was needed for the early start on the climb up to the summit of Ben Nevis, the weather forecast all week had been for cold weather, but nothing prepared the team for the white out on the summit. With the views still being clear at around 439m it wasn’t long before the weather closed in, and the snow started to fall…heavily. And remember this is June! Undeterred the team made it to the top, still smiling and ready for the brutal descent down.

Then it was the long drive southwards to the Lake District for the second challenge, Scafell Pike. Conditions were slightly better here, and believe it or not some cracking views of the mountains and lakes were witnessed. All the team made it to the summit but as the clock was ticking there was hardly time to take in the staggering views before the gentle jog back to the support vehicles below.

Then it was across the border into Wales for the final climb to the summit of Snowdon. Once again, the good old British weather wasn’t playing a summertime theme and the rain and low cloud came in. As we had employed the use of guides for the entire trip there was some separation of the team as each took a different route to get there.

Everyone completed the challenge, and we did it just outside the 24 hours the weather was truly against us, but none the less, everyone here at AW Group is proud of this massive achievement that the team undertook and for the large amount of donations that were made to Kent Air Ambulance smashing through our original target of £4100.

“The average cost of a mission is (aptly) £4,100. This cost includes our dispatchers, medics and pilots, fuel for our helicopter or Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV), equipment and helicopter maintenance, medicines, and disposable medical supplies.”

Let’s just say there are a few aching muscles here in the office today, but we are already talking about the next challenge and what we can do, but the overwhelming conclusion from the team that the 3 Peaks Challenge is hard, but great fun!
