AW GROUP – CIRCULAR ECONOMY WEEK 2024
This week (Monday 30 September to Sunday 6 October 2024) will see many individuals, organisations, businesses and governments coming together to discuss the reuse and regeneration of materials or products globally – Circular Economy Week 2024. We see the circular economy in use every day in our lives from preowned clothing to DVD’s and so on.
Diverging from the traditional linear model, which is characterized by a ‘take, make, dispose’ process, the circular economy is predicated on the principles of reducing waste and pollution, maintaining products and materials in use for as long as possible, and regenerating natural systems.
As humans we throw away tons of waste each year, but much of that waste still has a lot to offer. As a business and especially one within the construction sector we see our fair share of waste produced in the activities that we undertake.
It’s not through bad design or poor workmanship, for example, our strip out projects often see timber that is perfect for use in additional construction projects or that can be put back into use via our circular economy plan.
It’s not just timber, metal. paint, bricks, tiles, flooring, plaster, windows, doors, wallpaper and much more has been reused, upcycled and put back into the circular economy not just here at our HQ in Folkstone but around the projects we undertake across the UK.
From our office-based operations we have found second use for files, chairs, desks, computer monitors, tablets, books and more, much of these products will have many years of life left in them and certainly help those organisations that rely on the generosity of the public to keep going.
Our circular economy projects here at AW Group have been numerous and we continue to support many organisations covering a wide range of services, from small local charities, food banks, community gardens through to schools and colleges.
We’d like to see more of our potential waste and the products/materials we often find on site to be put back into the local community via our circular economy activities. Please do get in touch with us, we have a mailing list that can keep you updated on what materials we have currently available or follow our Facebook Page and Instagram accounts.
Please do look at the many initiatives and collaborations that we have struck up over the past two years and see how we can help you, and you can help us. For more information, please get in touch, contact Greg Mckenzie for more details and an informal chat.
Work together with us to define a more sustainable future and a better circular economy for all by prioritising the reuse of materials and preventing the over extraction and use of natural resources.
