AW Rail has considerable experience in railway vegetation management and supply teams across the UK directly to Network Rail and many of its Principal Contractors. We’ve tended to many miles of railway and lineside across the country, keeping vegetation successfully managed. Our primary focus is to ensure critical parts of the track are maintained to ensure safe train operation and the safety of railway staff, pedestrians, and track maintenance personnel.
We have the equipment, machinery and a highly skilled workforce that can tackle any vegetation site clearance project in a range of environments both at ground level and at height.
We supply experienced and skilled teams of chainsaw and brush cutter operators for manual vegetation or scrub removal, used to working on and around trackside, bridges, roadways, access points, stations, car parks etc
We can also supply qualified personnel in the use of herbicide and weed control applications, that comply with all Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
AW Rail carry out all works with a sensitive approach to all flora and fauna and have invested heavily in the training of key staff to identify areas that may need a more careful and managed approach to de-vegetation.
Where it is appropriate and safe to do so, we can move smaller branches and vegetation matter to nearby locations to support and create habitats for wildlife such as hedgehogs, amphibians, and reptiles. Larger branches can be chipped or mulched on site or removed to safe loading areas for further disposal.
Our aim is to offer a complete package of vegetation removal work. This covers felling, cutting, stump removal/treatment and treating of vegetation material to the removal of chippings.
While we endeavour to carry out all work while trains continue to run, in some instances, such as when the work is near power lines or overhanging branches pose a threat to the safe operation of the railway, rail services may need to be suspended, or work can be scheduled to avoid disruption. We have extensive experience in carrying out line blockages across the network and gaining safe access to the track.
Should clearance involve trees owned by line-side neighbours, landowners etc that overhang the rail network’s fences or boundaries, we seek permission first to maintain good working relations for us and our partners.
AW Rail are very much reactive and understand that you may need an emergency or disaster response solution – something we have provided time and time again throughout the years. Our teams are standing by and ready to respond to storm-related tree and branch clearance, resolving and removing tree debris as safely and quickly as possible.
In the past we have supplied safety critical staff to other organisations managing sensitive nature corridors along the track – Bat Habitats, Native Species Tree Planting, Ecological Surveys and more.
Whilst carrying out any vegetation works our teams can also simultaneously conduct visual fence or other boundary inspections to identify any damage that may have occurred due to invasive vegetation or fallen branches, further reducing your operational costs.
