AW Rail - Station Maintenance - Platforms
AW Rail Abbey Wood Station

SERVICE OVERVIEW

AW Rail have been providing maintenance services to the railway infrastructure across the UK for many years, our wealth of experience and knowledge means that we can be reactive to the ever-changing requirements of the network and its surroundings, whether that be buildings, platforms, or line side amenities.

Platforms play an integral part of any station or rail depot, keeping them maintained is crucial not only for the integrity of the structure but also for the safety of all those that use the rail network. If you are responsible for keeping station platforms and facilities operating at peak performance, often in extreme conditions then AW Rail can assist you in your planned rail platform maintenance, delivering everything you need in a one stop solution.

Safety is paramount on the railway, and legislation now requires that all new interfaces between pedestrians and vehicles require some form of aid to warn and protect the visually impaired from harm.  Tactiles have repeatably been shown as an effective tool to improve safety on the railways and reduce the number of avoidable accidents at stations. They can be utilised in many other areas such as zebra crossings, car parks and pavements to help those with visual impairment navigate safely through the station. At AW Rail we have installed thousands of metres of tactile measures across all types of stations and infrastructure.

Additionally, the installation and maintenance of copers also plays an integral part in platform safety. In line with Network Rails specifications, we can supply and install copers in a variety of formats to comply with current safety legislation/specification.

Preventing access to the railway line from the platform means the installation of access gates so that rail operatives can gain access but also prevents the public from straying onto the line. We are competent in installing all the necessary measures to help prevent this, from barriers to warning signs, witches’ hats to palisade fencing. We want to make the railway network as safe as possible for everyone accessing station platforms.

Structural works to ageing platforms has seen us carry out the installation of temporary propping for trestle coping stones that are beginning to fail and in need of support until a permanent fix is installed.  Station ACO drainage installing and resurfacings to tarmacadam areas or concrete pads laid.

Often our teams at AW Rail complete station platform maintenance out of hours, reducing the necessity to close a station during operational hours, with our extensive knowledge and planning of works on the rail network we can also arrange for any line blockages or possessions to take place to ensure the safety of all our operatives carrying out these works.

No matter what your needs may be, you can rely on AW Rail Services to help you maintain your station or depots platforms. Our fully accredited and highly trained rail maintenance experts are available 24/7 – we realise that the railways are continually changing, and we relish the challenge of supporting this.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

  • “Thank for all the hard work put in today and for the rapid response dealing with this emergency callout at Stone Crossing Station. With your help SETL was able to continue services with minimal delay, given the circumstances and will be duly noted in NGB’s period review with south-eastern Rail. Again thank you for all your hard work.”

    ASHLEY QUEEN
    CONTRACT SUPERVISOR - NG BAILEY
  • “As Contracts Manager for B&M McHugh Ltd, I can confirm that AW Rail provided a streamlined, honest approach to the work they were involved in and were very responsive to the requirements of the project. I found aw rail to be excellent communicators and they displayed a very thorough market/industry knowledge that helped to dramatically simplify the construction process.”

    RUSSELL MCCREATH
    CONTRACTS MANAGER - B. & M. MCHUGH LIMITED
  • “Over a number of years AW Rail have been a key part of the supply chain: supplying safety critical staff and skilled labour resource for our various frameworks and contracts across the South East. Works include specialist brickwork repairs, and various miscellaneous ancillary structural maintenance repairs. Attention to detail is key when planning works in the high-risk rail environment. Safety is paramount; and never put to the side in all aspects of the works. Once on site, their workmanship on site is of high quality and programme targets are hit. It is a pleasure to work with the teams involved.”

    SEBASTIEN PEZZINI-PICART
SENIOR SITE AGENT - DYER & BUTLER
  • “We continue to seek the services of AW RAIL and their work on the repairs of the Kent station drainage, canopy facia and flat roofing is a great example of why. They completed the works to a high quality throughout the project, and again their whole team remained reliable, informative, and responsive. Their approach to the project made for an unfazed and successful completion.”

    MICK WARE
CONTRACTS MANAGER - B&M MCHUGH LTD
  • “Just wanted to pass on our thanks to AWR for a great job well done! I had a site visit with the client this week and they are delighted with the works. As you were aware this was a very delicate issue as this door has repeatedly failed over the years and the Drivers Union escalated the issue. The new proposal passed the acid test following the downpour on Monday evening. Keep up the great work!”
